CRitters
Sentient life forms which do not form federations or build civilization
Life feeds on Life
In Quark, not all life travels the stars. Some dig deep into moons, others drift silently through methane clouds, or finally curl into the warm recesses of asteroid tunnels. Critters are naturally occurring lifeforms found throughout the galaxy. From massive burrowers to spectral floaters, these organisms are more than background flavor. They’re economically valuable, ecologically critical, and can be deeply mysterious.
The Ecology of the galaxy
Players encounter critters during exploration, settlement, and trade. These interactions can be passive—watching them glow across a methane lake—or active. Critters can be captured, tamed, bred, studied, traded, harvested, or utilized as living tools. Their presence is always meaningful, often profitable, and occasionally dangerous.
naturally plentiful
Critters are distributed across celestial bodies based on atmospheric compatibility and local environmental conditions. Planets may support several unique species, while moons and dwarf planets host fewer. Even asteroids, while barren and silent, have a slim chance of harboring singular, exotic life.
